Girls trip in a few weeks. Noticed Tent Rocks is still not open because of Covid? Some of us flying into ABQ and some flying directly into SF. Can anyone suggest cool trails/hikes that are in fact open near these points. We have the restaurants down, and spas booked, looking for outdoor activities. Thank you

I think Tsankawi is still open. It is an interesting trail which is part of Bandelier National Monument, but it is not in the main Bandelier park area.

I also like to poke around at the La Cieneguilla Petroglyph site.

Neither of these are very strenuous hiking, but have footing that requires some rock scrambling.

Most of the trails near Santa Fe will still have snow on them, maybe ice and mud. You could rent snowshoes and hit the Aspen Vista Trail near Ski Santa Fe. Hard to know what the conditions will be when you arrive.

Tsankawi can be tricky, there is a ladder to climb down, and some very narrow trails that are cut deep into rock that have grit on them, which can be hazardous. Don't know the age of these "girls" but it could be a factor.

As the last poster said, Bandalier can't be ignored.

Tent Rocks is near the Cerro Pelado fire. If open it may unpleasant due to smoke. Highway 4 in the Jemez Mountains is partially closed. Bandelier was closed last week. Situation is fluid and rapidly changing. Hiking areas off of Hyde Park Road appear to be unaffected so far. Best bets are the Highway 84 corridor between Espanola and Ghost Ranch, Ghost Ranch itself, which requires more red tape since the pandemic. Nambe Badlands should be okay. Sandias are good is the Ojito Wilderness area.

More than the usual planning and research is required at this time.
