The Burning of Zozobra - Official Site

Zozobra - history (http://www.zozobra.com/history.html - broken link)

There are rumors about an 11pm Rail Runner back to ABQ.

If you have never attended, you're not a true New Mexican.

Ugh I want to go but I live in Cali now and I have school. I used to to all the time as a kid, used to freak the hell out of me. We used to go on fieldtrips to see what he looked like before they burned him.

Only YOU can prevent forest fires!

Is Smokey the Bear a product of New Mexico, I doubt it.

Although I think Smokey the Bear was around earlier, there was a bear cub that was found after a forest fire in 1950, in Southern New Mexico (like near Ruidoso, Lincoln County), that was the real live Smokey the Bear:

He was then taken to the National Zoo in Washington D.C.

It's "Smokey Bear". Originally just called Smokey when a cub bear was rescued from a fire in the Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico in the early 1950's...
