Ugh I want to go but I live in Cali now and I have school. I used to to all the time as a kid, used to freak the hell out of me. We used to go on fieldtrips to see what he looked like before they burned him.
Burning of Zozobra...roasting chile...having a woodsmoke smell in the fall...farolitos...sounds to me like you're not a true New Mexican unless you like things set on fire
Is Smokey the Bear a product of New Mexico, I doubt it.
Although I think Smokey the Bear was around earlier, there was a bear cub that was found after a forest fire in 1950, in Southern New Mexico (like near Ruidoso, Lincoln County), that was the real live Smokey the Bear:
