The last time I rode on one of Santa Fe Trails' newer ElDorado EZ Rider II buses, I was surprised to find out that they are not equipped with automated announcement systems.
Is there any reason why Santa Fe Trails doesn't include automated announcement systems on their buses? ABQ RIDE has the systems installed on their entire fleet.
Strangely, Santa Fe Trails was 100% wheelchair accessible long before ABQ RIDE became 100% wheelchair accessible in 2008. However, for greater ADA compliance, automated announcment systems would be very useful for the visually impaired.
Interestingly, Santa Fe Trails was initially going to buy most of the ABQ RIDE 400-series buses, however, the deal fell apart due to problems with the test bus provided by ABQ RIDE. Since the 400-series buses are already equipped with automated announcement systems, it makes me wonder whether or not Santa Fe Trails would have used the AA systems had the deal not fell apart. Santa Fe Trails of course would have had to program them for the streets in Santa Fe if they were to use the systems.
So, why wouldn't Santa Fe Trails include automated announcements even on their newest buses?
