Oobie,
Congrats!!! SWEET! It has been a long road, but you did it!!

I would spend a few bucks and get a professional to get your pool in shape. They will use some filters that will need to be cleaned a lot initially. Then after they get it up and running, you can figure out from there how to maintain it the way that works best for you.

Lots of pools are in this condition after they have set around a while. You want to get them right on it, or you could have made it a requirement for them to get it up and running and operational as part of the terms of your sale. That is what I did.

I am really happy this worked out for you!! I know you're thrilled!

Thanks John!! Unfortunately it was a f)oreclosure (needing not too much work actually) so we didnt really have much option in dealing with it--House sold for $350 in 2006 so we are NOT complaining, we got a PHENOMENAL DEAL!

there is no way to say how fast the cartridge would take to clog up. all of the junk you see floating will go thru the filter. the big stuff will get caught in the strainer before the pump. the small stuff will get caught in the cartridge. by getting the chlorine level up as well as the ph you are on your way to cleaning up the pool. you will also need some algecide. to clean the cartridge most filters have a cap that unscrews and you pull the cartridge out and flush with a garden house. you might need to do this a couple times a day until it is clean. a pool service uses a system that is the same but the pump and filter is larger so they can move more water faster. if you want to save them money and do a little work you can get it in shape.

just curious------where did you end up buying. you might be around the corner and for a beer i would be glad to come over and help.
