I'm from Minneapolis, Minnesota and will be moving to Sarasota at the end of the year to take a job. I have been to Sarasota before but never had a chance to explore. Just wondering what I should expect in terms of:

Access to nature - Minneapolis is completely intertwined with trees, lakes, animals, and parks everywhere and I love that.

Nightlife - I enjoy the club scene once in a while, but I'm a pub guy.

Demographic - I'm 23 and single, moving to a whole new land with a Minnesota accent. Are there lots of fun people my age around or will I likely have a tough time making friends and meeting singles?

Any other info you would like to include would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

There is nature all around i.e. Myakka State Park, the gulf, the bay, parks, etc...

Many "pubs" to choose from.....dm me & I'll tell you the best kept secret pub.

Contrary to popular belief, this town is full of young people. You can get on the young professionals group for Sarasota on facebook to get started.
This weekend we had the Vinyl Music Festival with DJ's from all over the world come & play. Google Vinyl Music Festival & see what we do & how we do it here.

You will blend really well, dont worry. This area is swarming with people from all over, Minnesota, NY, Jersey, and the Midwest. Siesta Key has tons of fun places: Daquiri Deck, Gilligans, The Siesta Key Oyster bar and The Beach Club. You probably wont be too far from there depending on what part of Sarasota you'll be moving to. Myakka State Park is available, as is Oscar Scherer (spelling??) Park in Ospry. Some of the smaller parks are nice too. You can also check out Spanish Point in Osprey or more local ones around. I am a member of Sarasota Young Professionals on FB, you can get a lot of info that way.

Default Living in the 34236 - Sarasota downtown - looking for good place to rent a 1BR

Hey buddy, I'm in almost the same boat as you are in {moving to Sarasota} except I'm from Wisconsin. I am curious to the results of your move?

I'm starting work in Sarasota and initially commuting from Tampa {which is an hour each way}...So I am going to move to Sarasota in a month. Do you know of some good places to live for a 28 year old straight, single guy? I am into sports, outdoor stuff, pubs, and girls. Your normal Midwestern guy...Sorry about the vi-queens, {jk}. Go Pack go..

kyle

Cheesehead17,
My move got pushed back quite a bit. It is now looking like May will be my time. By the time I get there, maybe you can point me in the direction of the best places for fun. Yeah, the Vikings aren't worth a crap haha I hate them almost as much as I love them. Congrats on your Superbowl victory and hopefully we can find some chicks come May.

A few here and there, but people come and go.. you won't be making lifelong friends here in the area.

If you are into run of the mill things or party scenes ( I am not, I seek for more out of life), then you may make out with people in your age group, but the transient factor still gets in the way whether your into this scene or pubs or whatever else. I am more of a hipster type.

Very tough time in the dating scene. It is extremely hard to get hooked up here. I suggest you even things out back home if the social part is a big deal. People come here, think its all cool because its tropical, but you soon find out that all the glitters isn't gold. In Californias case, its true though.

On a side note, I have looked into Minneapolis as a possibility and I have an online friend who lives there now, and from what he says, the locals there are quite a bit connected and knew eachother forever so if this applies to you, you will miss all your old friends and fast if you choose to relocate here. Its not homy here like it would be with all your Minnesotan native friends. Being homesick is definitely a bad thing.
