Oobie119, Did you work with a recruiter to get the interviews? I am more than willing to come down and spend a few days and interview. Any suggestions on good recruiter?

I didn't use a recruiter, I just researched school districts, and got vice principal and principals email addresses, and phone numbers. I hand delivered resumes to every school in two different districts as well as emailed them. I also called many times to follow up..Just takes a lot of perserverence, gas and patience...

Has anyone you know (or anyone on this forum) ever done something such as this?

I think many people have done this and overlooked the telephone thingy.
I.E. why would an employer call me when I give them my 716 area code?
I personally plan on changing my number at least six months before /if we make the move to SWFL.

Question What Do You Have To Lose??

I have an extensive background in healthcare and most felt that finding a position would not be a problem. Just a little insight would help! thanks!
You sold your house...lost your job...your daughter lives in Tampa...what exactly is holding you back from moving......you can use your daughter's address on your Resume...you can get a cell phone in Iowa with a Florida area code...or your daughter can get you one and mail it out to you...about the only thing I would do when I get there is find an extended stay hotel to stay in while you are looking for a job...this way when you find something...you can adjust where you want to live according to where you have to work......GOOD LUCK...and once again...what is holding you back...

I've been here 3 years & still have my cell phone # from my home state. My land line is 941 though. I think many people from up north keep a cell # from another area code- I know others that do.

As an employer, I want to know that the person lives here, is committed to staying here (where our business is located) and if I hire them, they aren't going to turn around and leave. Florida is transient enough. Plus, if I call for an interview, I don't want to deal with "can you help pay the cost to come in, can you help pay my moving expenses?" Why deal with that, and why should they?

Ladywithafan just went through the tough job hunting experience. She was here, when they called she went in totally prepared to demonstrate that she is the best candidate for the job, and there is no question - and she's here for the long haul, and wants to stay here. One needs to make themselves the best candidate available, and putting on a stamp on a letter from Iowa is not showing much initiative.

And, to the OP, welcome to the board. Everyone here is happy to offer you some pretty good advice, and likes to help. The medical industry is hiring people all the time in this area, so at least you are looking in one of the most employable fields. I hope the advice is encouraging and well received.
Hey there!
Sounds like you have no reason to stay up north. My suggestions:

1. Find a short term rental on Craigslist (Sarasota/Bradenton apts.)
2. Job market is rough; you should have $ for at least six months w/o job. It took me four months to get three interviews after sending out tons of resumes & I've lived in this area 20 years.
3. You've really got nothing to lose so make the move.
