We are moving into the area shortly and are considering both schools. Only reason why we are considering the IVMS is because our son has a friend already attending. Considering that we are moving from the north east, we are hoping to make the transition as easy as possible for our 2nd grader. Having a friend in school already I think would fill that gap. We have since done our homework on the Montessori teaching methods vs a regular public school setting and we are undecided yet. I have some friends up here that tell me that Montessori or charter schools appear not to be so structured and that they let kids pretty much do what they want. Another thing said was that it appears that children with discipline issues usually end up in these schools.

Now we spoke to our friends that have their son in IVMS and the say the complete opposite. They seem to like it but they don't love it. They live in Osprey so I figured that was their best option. They spoke about Pineview but they not sure if they want to put their son in there.

Seeking for any information and/or experiences anyone may have with either of the schools. We would be in Turtle Rock so Ashton would be in our boundaries and IVMS would be about 20-25mins off of 75. Thanks for the comments.

Ahhh good ole Island Village. I helped Kym Elder, the director, open the school back in 2001 and my older two kids were the first two kids in the school. We actually started it in Kyms living room. When the school opened there were many, many problems. I'm assuming most have been ironed out over the years. I hear varying reports on IVMS. Some people love it and some hate it. When my kids attended there were many kids in the school that had behavioral issues. It seems they were looking for an alternative to the mainstream school. Here are some reviews on the school-some good, some bad- http://www.greatschools.org/school/p...=5387&state=FL

I'm a big fan of the Montessori teaching method. That being said, if it were me I'd choose Ashton.

I also looked into IV and PV over Ashton. I think Ashton will be a better fit for us. The method at IV sounds good but I have no experience with it past preschool. My children qualify for PV but I'm not a fan of that much homework. You have my children all day...so, you get ONE hour from them after school for homework...I was always in gifted programs growing up and I remember wishing I could go out and play with my friends but I always had 'much more to do' than they did. Some thrive on it, though!

Thank you SoFLGal as always and thanks Beachymom. Nice to hear all is going well with your recent move. My wife and I followed it and it was like reading a page out of our move. We said well I guess we are not alone. Thought I would get more feedback on this IVMS and Ashton review. Your comments have been helpful thanks.

Good luck with your move! You will love it! And for the schools, you will be fine with PV or Ashton from what I hear. I haven't heard much about IV. Will you be here for this school year?

Yes, we have one heading to Riverview and one to Ashton. We are down to crunch time, flying down early next week to enroll the kids as school starts the 23rd. Then I fly back solo to take care of the moving company and closing.

We have two going to Riverview and two going to Ashton. LOL! We just (today!) finalized paperwork for transferring immunization records from Ohio to Florida. I've had to make THREE trips downtown for some Ohio/Florida issue...unbelievable..I was prepared for that at the DMV but that was a piece of cake! The woman even made fun of me for bringing 'too much' to get my FL license. LOL! Now on to get our plates and tags, which by the way are $400+ per car!! WHAT??

i have 2 going to Pineview. Left a private gifted school up north to try this out. Getting nervous as the start of school approaches!! Just got all the immunization records transferred last week. I had no idea there was a high cost for plates & tags - wtf??? that's not cool. i don't need any more expenses!! lol Oh well. I wasn't in any hurry to get the FL license or plates anyway - is there a benefit to doing it? i really have no idea, it just seems like 1 more hassle.

Well, you have 30 days to get a Florida license once you move. Then you have 10 days after you get your FL license to get your FL plates..and you have to get FL insurance before you can get the plates. LOL!

WOW $400+ that is crazy. Never heard of that, guess the state needs to make some money outside of tourism.
