I took a ride to NP today to drive by some listings that looked interesting on the MLS. A few of the houses were on streets that need to be resurfaced. Usually that's not a big problem for me (unless there are huge pot holes!) since I figure that means nobody will be cruising by my house at 50mph.

Anyway, I was told to "be careful" if I'm considering a home in North Port because, if my street needs road repairs, I'll get a big bill from the City. Is this true?

I just did a little research and, from what I gather, in Nov there will be a vote on a Road Rehabilitation Bond Referendum and, according to the City of North Port, a homeowner with a house valued at $150,000 will only absorb approximately $136 a year. The homes I mentioned were listed for under $100K, so I don't know why this would even be an issue for me.

Hmm.. I haven't heard that. I do know that the city made a sizable sum of money from selling/auctioning off abandon lots. This was back in 2005 and this money was supposed to be "earmarked" for the roads projects. Here's an article about it: Land auction opens with slow bidding | HeraldTribune.com

You always dredge up interesting reading material. That sure warrants a call to the city for clarification.
