My husband and I are closing on a brand new house in Parrish in a few weeks. We have gotten 2 estimates on having a pool installed but we would like a few more estimates. This is the first time we will have a pool and have learned alot in the last week but we are having trouble getting contractors to get back to us.

If you really want someone who knows how to build a pool, look for Bill Belle. (he has retired from pool contracting more times than I have grandkids)
If you can't find him try American Beauty Pools.
both are knowledgeable, (have experience with many situations) honest (will be there down the road if you need them) live here and are local. Do not look for the cheapest bid. You really get what you pay for. Anyway, In today economy most of your bids are going to be pretty close. Pool Contractors use the same subs for many of the components in pools construction. What ever you do, use a licensed pool contractor. In many years past, some pool contractors have been know to start pools and never finish them, they run out of money first!

Thanks for the advice. We originally wanted to buy a house with a pool but were told that with the economy we would be able to put one in for a good price. So far 2 of the bids have been really high so that's why we are still looking.

Often you can get a better deal without a pool and just add one on. Also there will be more of a selection if you do it that way. Down here in North Port there are pool contractors advertising building pools for $20k with everything-pool, cage, equipment.

We are actually staying in Northport until settlement but are these contractors going to want to travel 1 hour away and then what if there are problems afterwards? Is it common for them to travel that far? Thanks for the response.

Historically speaking, pool contractor bids run a little higher in the summer! More people are looking for ways to cool off! So pool contractors bid a littler higher when there are more people looking for pools! If you can wait, start shopping this fall!

I would imagine it's some what slow for them right now. If you have a few mins you might want to contact Jerry over at Casa Pools in Port Charlotte. I've always gotten good feedback from everyone who has used him.

Also there was a thread on this board a few weeks ago about pool contractors. It was pretty informative. You might want to locate that as well. I'm pretty sure beachbumwannabe posted on the thread so if you search his old posts you might come up with it.

@growupgreener--That makes a lot of sense. Never really thought about that.

There are some good pool contractors and builders out there if you are willing to do some research. I work for one, they're called Poolmasters of Southwest Florida. Please, please, please, check out the BBB before you sign a contract. I CAN NOT stress that enough!!! You can go off of recommendations from friends and other people but, please also do your own research. If you would like to check out some of the work that we have done, I have attached a link to Facebook at the bottom of the page. It has most of our pictures on there so you can check them out. You do not have to be signed up for Facebook to view them. If you like what you see or want to give us a call, all of the information is on our facebook page or you can check us out at MyPoolmasters.com.

Thank you for all the suggestions. We are probably going with the company that the salesman for our new house suggested in the first place but we are glad that we did some research and met with several contractors. We also liked that his payment schedule is spaced out over the process of the installation. For those of you who have lived through a pool installatiion, how tough is it to live through? They will be building a house next door to us at the same time so I guess it's better to get it over at the same time. Should be interesting!
