we're used to the ocean temperature in Ocean City in the summer, not sure how cold that is, but it sounds like we will risk it!

I measured the water temperature here (in a canal) in PGI yesterday, and it was 86 degrees. It is said to be a slight bit cooler as you move closer to the gulf. But I wouldn't expect it is more than a degree or two different.

We spent Friday at Englewood Beach and the water was 79 degrees. Took a few minutes to get used to it.

I'm sure you are correct... most of us have never been swimming off the SD coast. Kudos to you
The SD water sounds like what we were used to on Lake Michigan, which is lucky to get above 70. After being used to the warm FL weather for over a year now, I can't go in 70 degree water anymore. Brrrrr

Last night while watching the news, they said the gulf temperature was 78 degrees. Which is cool at first, refreshing, but no problem to swim in - unless you are from Florida. LOL

Growing up on an Atlantic beach, all I can say is the average water temperature IN AUGUST is about 72. We swam in it from June to September.

78 degrees feels like warm Jell-O compared to that.

In fact, I think it's an especially good temperature for a refreshing swim on a hot day.
