Having lived in the same area all my life, I find moving to a different state and climate quite exciting and strange. Everyday is an adventure. Just a few of some of my observations....

The bulls lounging under palm trees...(How cool is that?)

The bulls lounging under palm trees directly in front our grocery store...(I just can't get over that..)

The cute white birds that stand on the bulls all day. Are they friends?

The cute, teeny, tiny, little old lady who bagged our groceries asking my husband and I if we need help out to our car...(aww...)

The confused looks locals give me when I mispronounce common street names. (Tamaimi isn't pronounced Ta-Miami? Tammy-ammy? Really? What about the Miami part? And Honore isn't hon-or? Apparantly not. )

The birds down here are true "early birds"....I got up at 3:45 to get a glass of water, and a bird is chirping away...chirping is probably the wrong word. More like a prehistoric pterodactyl mating call.

The tall cranes walking around have no fear of me. I'm putting bags into the back of my van at Super Target, and they're trying to peak their heads in to have a look at what I've got. I got back out of my car twice to make sure one wasn't still standing back there.

The humidity in Ohio affects my hair much worse than it does in Florida....I have naturally curly, fuzzy hair that I style straight. I had mentally prepared myself that I was going to have crazy hair all summer down here. Not the case. Hmmm.....

The beauty of everything here. I know it's still all new to us but we sigh a huge sigh of gratitude every time we step outside. The flora and fauna, the awesome birds and little creatures, the sun and the smell of the ocean....never going to take that for granted.

It doesn't matter where I go down here, Target, Publix, Walmart...I end up helping someone find what they need. I know I don't look like I work there. I'm wearing a sun dress and flip flops. But someone is always asking me to help them find something. I don't mind. I think it's sweet.

Okay, enough of my Jennyisms for now. I have too many more, I just need to remember them. Probably when I hit send...

Cool observations! Actually the cute white birds (cattle egret) that stand on the cows pick the bugs, etc off of them. It's a loving relationship.

I hear the butchering of Tamiami all the time! That's good FL entertainment. The road goes from Tampa to Miami, hence the shortened name Tamiami. Most people probably already know that though.

LOL at the mating call Glad you like it here and you're finding your place in FL.

all true! especially the hair thing! Long Island humidy would frizz me out! Today and yesterday are muggy and my hair is still behaving! Crazy

I do have a couple of not-so-great things I've noticed that BUG me like crazy. They are all dog related...

Folks here seem to feel less obligated to pick up the poop. Keeping a dog on a leash doesn't seem to be a priority either. Spaying and Neutering also not popular.

- On the poop thing... it's even on my LAWN! holy crow, how RUDE!! Do they have fines for that here?

- Leash... you may think your dog is friendly but guess what, mine isn't!! Also, this week a 3 year old boy in bradenton was attacked by loose dog that entered his backyard

-We have enough dogs in shelters, puppy mills & backyard breeders. Spay/neuter your dog! Please! This is a big deal up north. You can have it done free at a clinic if needed. Do they offer that here?

Anyway - i will throw in something nice here too, not trying to turn your nice thread into a b**ch-fest lol...
-the stacked up turtles i see in the ponds are so cute.
-i like walking on all the little acorns on the trails & sidewalk and feeling/hearing them crunch as I walk
-the pinecones are jurassic-sized lol
-i am in a total weather haze and can't really comprehend the 39 degree weather my family & friend up north have already!

I thought it was strange/funny when we were down there the first week of November, folks rushing to get their Christmas decorations up before it got too "cold".....

In our neighborhood everyone picks it up. I never leave the house with Champy without having a bag in my hand. I even do a poop patrol in my yard every mid-morning. That way I make sure he has done his business before I go out. Although sometimes I think he holds off waiting for me to do it first.

They began turning on all the Christmas lights in Punta Gorda a week before Thanksgiving! I think they bought a lot more lights and decorations for this year. It looks great at night!! I can't wait to see everyone lighting up the canals!!

So, I'm not the only one who noticed the hair thing? I still say the humidity in Ohio is as bad if not worse than here.

I haven't noticed the spay/neuter thing yet but I have noticed the poop. If you are going to take your dog on Lagacy Trail, clean up the poop!

I, too, love the stacked up turtles! And the acorns. Speaking of acorns, when we first moved here I wondered why the squirrels were so skinny. My DD9 said, "Mom, obviously because they don't have to fatten up for the winter...."

And I do have some minor complaints...the shopping malls here are...eehhh...
I know we have been quite spoiled in C-bus with Easton Town Center and Polaris. Les Wexner lives there and designed the best there. I walked into the Gap for the first time last week at the Westfield (south). I didn't know they made them that small. And I'm not even a big mall shopper by any stretch. I prefer small, artsy places..Oh, well. At least the north Westfield has a Bare Escentuals.

And those no-see-ums were really out to get me there for awhile. And I was tortured for days by one little fire ant bite.

That IS funny! It's quite the opposite up north. "Hon, the temps are going to be above freezing this weekend. Time to get the lights up!"
