Two of my sons are planning to move to S.Springs next year and I'd like to be at least in a neighboring area. My present home is in a small rural town. My hobby is keeping chickens( entertainment and eggs--no slaughtering). Is there an area within an hour or so of Sarasota Springs that would be appropriate?
Thanks, PC

Eastern Manatee County should be able to accommodate your need. Myakka has lots of properties available. Be cautious if you look out that direction. Many of the properties do not have surface/mineral rights and Mosaic can exercise their right to mine for phosphates in either 2012 or 2014 (can't recall at the moment). There are still many properties out that way that do have surface rights and should be well enough away from the mining area.

Another option might be to look out in DeSoto County out towards Arcadia.

I saw this post last night and was gonna answer it but I've been so darn sick. Man, this cold has really got me down.

So, Sarasota Springs. Off of Webber and McIntosh. To raise chickens you would obviously need the property to be zoned agriculturally. Most areas would be east of I-75.

Here are some ideas. I know these places allow horses but I'm not sure on the chicken factor:

North Port Estates (probably one of your more reasonably priced agriculturally zoned communities).

OakFord

Myakka Valley Ranches

North Venice Farms

Englewood Farm Acres

Bern Creek Ranches

Everglade Estates

Foxfire

Saddle Oak Estates

Deer Hammock

Lake Geraldine

Hope this helps!
