Is anyone familiar with this condo at 1400 1st Ave. West? Is it considered well-maintained and in a safe neighborhood? My husband and I plan to retire to the Sarasota area in a year or so. We've been city dwellers our whole lives, first in New York City and now in Boston. Something tells me we'd be happier in a semi-urban atmosphere than stuck out in the suburbs, but I could be wrong. Would this be a good condo for us, or do you know of a better one? Thanks in advance for your help.

With an NYC/Boston background, I'd tell you to look in Sarasota over Bradenton & rent downtown for a year so you can get your bearings. You can walk all over downtown Sarasota from Marina Jack's to the Van Wezel as encompass the whole Main Street area from Tamimai Trail to Washinton Blvd./301. You will find shopping, restaurants, clubs & Whole Foods. Go google downtown Sarasota. Bradenton's downtown is a different story.

This is totally correct. ^^ Downtown Sarasota has FAR more to offer in a small compact city - everything you want right downtown, and it's just beautiful. Bradenton is trying, but it has a long, long way to go.

Good luck to you!

Default downtown sarasota

Thank you both! I especially like the idea of renting first. I need to walk through downtown Sarasota and see what there is to see. I really appreciate the advice.
