Advice Please!!!

If you were a young couple (32 and 27) with no kids who relocated for a job located in South Bradenton where would you choose to live?

Bradenton? Sarasota? St. Pete? Other?

We would like to be near fun things (beach, golf, bars, restaurants, etc) but don't want to be in a horrible crime area. We also don't want to be the only people in the neighborhood who are under 62. Looking to rent a house/duplex/condo with a yard.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm around your age and I'd probably chose the downtown Sarasota area or close to Siesta Key. It's close enough to your job in B-town. If you wanted more exciting nightlife then you could always drive over to St Pete.

Main St in Sarasota has some great restaurants. Siesta Key has the #2 beach in the world according to Dr Beach. There are also some really fun places out on Siesta as well.

What's your rental budget? We could probably give you better direction knowing this.

Thanks for the quick reply. In doing some initial research I found the same thing (downtown Sarasota/ Siesta Key). That commute would be just fine. Our budget would be $800ish. We'd consider maybe as much as $1,200 but that would have to be just a perfect place with everything we would want. 2 bedrooms is enough, but we have 2 medium sized dogs. We'd love a fenced in yard. We also like golf and the beach. I'm not sure if some places have golf packages built in, but if reasonable we would consider that.

It might be a stretch to find something in the Southside area but that's the area I'd suggest for you. The dog thing might be an issue as well since some landlords don't like renting to tenants with dogs. What you have going for you is timing. Most of the snowbirds go back up north after Easter and the rentals prices tend to drop.

I would look south of Main St and west of US 41 until you get to Bahia Vista St then you could look east of US 41/ Tamiami Trl. You could probably look all the way down to Stickney Pt Rd (the south bridge to Siesta).

Another area worth checking out is the Southgate and Gulf Gate areas. Not quite as "hip" as the Southside area but more reasonable rent prices and still close to shopping and the beaches. Gulf Gate runs just south of Stickney Point Rd and east of Tamiami Trl. Gulf Gate Dr runs right through it. Then most of South Gate is around Proctor, Swift and Bee Ridge Rds.

Check Whitfield Estates where we live. Older neighborhood north of the airport near the bay - got golf course and marina here, no HOA. Mix of all ages and economic classes. Big yards, lots of open "park" land for doggies to run, there are rentals in this area, but you probably need to check Craiglists. Your commute would only be 10-15 minutes. And easy access to almost everything. We love it here. We are older but our neighbors are your age, and they love it here, too!

Good luck!

SoFLgal, Thanks! Please feel free to DM me with any website links or rental information you have available. I will be in the area next week (April 25-28) so maybe there are some places I can check out in person. I can get you my e-mail address if you DM me. Thx

Most of the condos/townhomes have rules about tenants now being allowed to have pets, so your best bet with 2 dogs is to look for homes to rent.

If you're willing to look at a smaller 2 bedroom, 1 or 2 bath home in the neighborhoods given here, you might find something in the $800 - $900 a month range.

When you say your employment will be in south Bradenton, is it west towards US41 or more east towards I75? Commute times in Sarasota can get pretty long, especially in the winter. Gulf Gate would be a 45 minute drive (one way) to south Bradenton during the winter "season." I know, as I live in south Manatee county myself and make that trip frequently.

The Whitfield area is a good suggestion. If your job is located closer to I75 in east Bradenton, then subdivisions off of I75 at Bee Ridge such as Sarasota Springs, Ridgewood, Brentwood or Lake Sarasota might work for you as it's usually faster to take the interstate to one of the 2 Bradenton exits than commute through town. You should find rentals in all of those neighborhoods in your price range.

Good luck with your search and welcome to Bradenton.
