I'd like to hear from those of you who are single, or know someone who is, and whether or not you/they find Sarasota good or bad when it comes to meeting a mate.

I guess it would depend on your age somewhat and of course your personality. What kind of things do you like to do and what's your age range?

I'm a 45 yr old male. I like boating, diving, hiking ect.... I guess my concern would be that the majority of the population would be considerably older ( retired ) or younger ( students ). I'm moving from an area that has a heavy college age population and young familys, which has a very isolating effect on mid-age singles. Worried that Sarasota could present some similar challenges.

Sarasota actually has a pretty good amount of people in your age range - I think you will do fine here!

Nope, you're just perfect for here. The average age is right around 45 (I think a little younger actually).

Sarasota is great for doing outdoor activities. I spend a lot of time kayaking and at the beach.

Here's a website that might interest you: Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup

Once you get out and start getting involved in things that you like I'm sure you'll hook up with people.

Like Gypsy said, there's a good mix of people. We do have several colleges, which is good for the younger crowd. And I'm sure you're aware that FL is a retirement destination but I think Sarasota, in general, is on the younger side if things.

There's always something happening in the downtown area-festivals, art shows, wine tastings, markets, etc

I met my hubby at a gym when I was about 23. I'm 38 now.

As already stated, depending on your personality, you should do fine as there are pleanty of single people out in about Sarasota and beyond. You might also try signing up for some of the local groups in the area via meetup.com there's a few Sarasota singles groups on there. They always offer some great activities for socializing. If nothing else, you never have to worry about not having something to do or going it alone. This coming weekend there are several activities planned at beaches and other venues. One of the singles groups is having an outing at Siesta Key Beach on Sunday. They have walking, dinning, kayaking groups, volunteer groups, etc.

I know for a fact that several relationships have developed via those groups and even marriages . One marriage happened just the past weekend.

I see our goddess of the SBV Florida forums already hooked you up with a link, to the meetups, as I was slowing typing my response. You'd be wise to make use of the link.

Ok, I'm 45, single/divorced, and I was going to ask that question on here too and I've lived here several years! ha! Well, Sarasota has a younger population in my opinion. When I go out with friends, I usually see the 20's and young 30's out. I would have to agree with the other members though that have suggested the meetups. Do you already live here or are you moving here?
