Tom Selleck and his family lived in Sarasota too. One of their nieghbors, I met five years ago, told me about it. I don't know if they still do live there.

So does Stephen King, on Casey Key. And Chris Browne the cartoonist of Haggar the Horrible. Or how about Tom Cruise? He and his parents both have homes on Siesta Key and he goes to the Scientology temple up in St Petersburg.

It's really no big deal and most of these people can go to the beach because it's out their back door - and yes they do go shopping and blend in. I'm sure they're here because people leave them alone.

Up in my neck of the woods (MN) I have always seen Prince around. I worked in management at the movie theaters during high school and would often times stay there late just for him and his wife to see new releases alone. I was supposed to charge like $1,000 to do it and never would. He's from MN but was never left alone living in California so he came back. I don't blame him for this logic.

It's no big deal, they're people, it's just kinda fun to know what they all have accomplished and it's another reason to enjoy the Sarasota area. They choose this place for many good reasons (and not just for taxes, heck I'm coming down permanently for the sake of taxes) and I don't intend on spoiling it for them or anyone else.

Ladywithafan - I'd like to hang with Skid Row sometime. Awesome band!!! I'm sure you've seen more celebs than any of us with your involvement in the film festival and all. I was part of the MN film board myself and took calls for a many many celebs. You get used to it after a while.

A while back Cher used to be seen a lot down here in Sarasota because one of her best friends (Paulette Betts) used to live here (in my neighborhood in fact) I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't have a little part-time pad of her own around here.

Stephen and his wife Tabitha live out on N Casey Key. My assistants husband owns an A/C company and services his home. They bought their home in 2001 for a measly $9mil. It sits back from the road quite a bit and has a wrought iron fence around it with bat finales.

Also the guitarist for the Bob Segar Band, Chris Campbell, lives out on Bird Key. His daughter goes to school at Pine View with my middle daughter.

Brian Johnson and his wife Brenda live at the end of Bird Key on the water. They actually built their home there in 1992 and have been living there ever since. I think they're full time residents unless he's out touring, of course. If I remember right, this is the home with the pool shaped like a guitar. They used to come into Euphemia Haye Restaurant frequently when my ex worked there. She writes commentary in some of the local food magazines.

I forgot, I live here too. (rotflmao) It's a great place not to get noticed if you're undercover.

Yes, Brian's pool is shaped like a guitar.

That's funny I forgot the famous LWAF.

Yeah, there's also a huge lightning bolt in the tile out on their lanai. It's the symbol that he uses between the AC/DC.

Speaking of Paulette Betts. I remember when I was a kid watching the Alman Bros-with Greg Alman, Dickey Betts and the rest jam out at little pubs out on Anna Maria Island. I thought Dickey lived somewhere out in Myakka now, not sure though. I saw Greg Alman play a few years back out at the Sarasota Blues Fest and he wasn't as good as I remember him as a kid.

So, I was in Sarasota today and picked up Sarasota Magazine. You'll never guess who our latest Sarasota resident it???? Leona Helmsley's $12Mil poodle!!!!

I thought the article was pretty funny---

You would expect the rich and famous to be drawn to Sarasota's natural beauty. And they are. But our town offers them something even more special-a little personal privacy.

Sometimes they want to join the fun. Comedian Dick Smothers, sportscaster Dick Vitale and AC/DC singer Brian Johnson are often seen out and about and have made friends all over town.

Others keep a lower profile. TV's Jerry Springer surfaces occasionally, and the tennis glamazons-Martina Navratilova, Monica Seles and Maria Sharapova-can sometimes be glimpsed on various courts around town, at the gym, even in the isles at Publix.

But others, live novelist Stephen King, are virtual recluses. They demand total privacy for their extraordinary creativity, and we give it to them.

Most reclusive of all is out latest celebrity newcomer, Leona Helmsley's poodle, Coco. The world's richest dog-she's worth $12 million-is now living somewhere in Sarasota, under an assumed name. Good doggie.

So does "Coco" live by herself, or does she have a staff of humans?
