Does anyone know if you can surf cast in the Bradenton / Sarasota area off the beach? What kind of fish are you likely to catch?

I tried this in high school with a group of friends, we were cast netting by the north bridge. We got a written warning at the time. This was over a dozen years ago so things may have changed!

I've yet to see anyone catch anything respectable doing typical surf casting around here. I've caught some pretty good sized snook walking along the beach but I was using light spinning stuff and casting right into the first trough only about 10-15 feet from the water's edge. I just don't think it's as productive as it is on the ast coast but I could be wrong. You might need a license:

We were just fishing off Nokomis beach and caught--small sharks and snook (not snook season so had to let them go). You can also catch flounder, redfish, trout, snapper, etc. If you're fishing close to a dock you might catch a few sheepshead
