Lot clearing. I have a couple of waterfront lots next to each other in south gulf cove fl. and need someone to clear them. Does anyone know someone that is reasonable and good?

Many of the land clearing companies have gone out of business since there's not much building going on. You might want to try A & M Land Clearing. They've been around for a long time and have kept a good name in the community. A & M Land Clearing & Fill - North Port, Florida (FL) | Company Profile

Out of mere curiosity, I called around last year to see what it would cost to clear our vacant lot. Two "lot clearing" companies wanted $3,500-5,000, which I feel is ridiculous. So I called a couple of tree trimming/mowing companies in my neighborhood. They quoted $2,000-2500 I believe. Check with your local guys, and get numerous quotes.

Here is someone you can call. I have never used him. I got his business card from a real estate office. He does enviro-friendly vegetation grinding, land clearing, bush hog mowing, demolition and complete site work.

I don't know what the current law is but I remember hearing that it is illegal to clear or trim mangrove trees if you have them. Just mentioning it for what it's worth...

The average cost to clear a lot and prepare it for construction of a home is around $5000 If all you want to do is cut the weeds and make the lot look clean, someone with a bush hog can do it for alot less than $2000
Being that it is a water front lot, be cautious that no debis falls in the water. If you have any mangrove trees, I'm sure you know the laws concerning them.

Cutting mangroves will get you a huge fine. Cutting royal palms will also get you a hefty fine. There are a number of protected trees in Florida. Know what you're cutting, and make sure it's legal. I'd assume the pros know this, but the grunts doing the actual cutting may not know which trees are which.

Also check for gopher tortoise burrows ahead of time. They are an endangered species. They are basically land turtles that dig holes in the ground and live in those holes. Grading eqpt can trap them and kill them. You probably need a permit due to this, depending on what is going to be done. When you get a permit, the county might come out and check for tortoise burrows (holes). Not sure if scrub jays are designated there or not..but that is something to check ahead of time.

Ditto for the mangroves and also buttonwood that are near the water. Don't remove them.

Some counties require you to survey all trees on the property and submit to the county prior to doing any land clearning. It is called a tree permit. They come out and check before clearing and after clearing.

You can get the rules by calling the county building department.

If you break the rules and clear without any needed permits, chanced are very good that someone nearby will be calling and snitching if you don't have proper permits and such. Neighbors are pretty territorial about lot clearing even on lots they don't own.

A neighbor of ours that was walking by when we were getting the driveway area cleared (with proper permits) was so upset about it being developed that you'd think her dog was under the heavy equipment.

Good thing these lots are pretty clear already. They just have pepper tree growth at the street and water areas. No jays, turtles or neighbors. That is why I bought the lots. Hard to find piece and quite in Florida now. The only thing I didn't know about were royal palms. But I would have kept them.Just wish I had some royals. I got a quote of 854.00 for both lots to clear. I think that is a good price and they are going to do it next month. Thanks
