Is the crime bad in any of these cities? The same as other cities or less than others.

thats a pretty open ended question. is one town worse than the other? yes to all depending on the section you are in. are they worse than other parts of the country? yes and no depending on where you are comparing.

the poor economy and shortage of jobs along with drug use have made for some desperate people.

there are numerous discussions about this if you search the archives.

You can use this web site to search for crime rates by neighborhood. Type in the city or the address. Click on the name of the neighborhood. Then click on the See Neighborhood Information link. It will take you to a list of tabs where you can see an overview of the neighborhood, schools, crime rates, etc. Larger cities tend to have a higher crime rate, but the crime differs within each neighborhood, no matter where you live.

North Port and Venice show low crime, Sarasota shows a bit more. It does not seem to be a problem as most cities I have lived in or near are worse than these. Compared to Detroit these seem great, to BFE Colorado they seem high.
