I've asked several times on these boards about how/why the violence in Newtown stays in Newtown. (7 of the 8 murders in Sarasota in 2011 were there) Only seems likely that it will spread from there. Maybe it has?

As far as the dog goes, maybe it was in the house and she was in the garage? Even if it were the son, I know my German Shepherd mix would attack anyone, if he could, (even my husband) if they were attacking me.

In any case, so very sad. Seems like she was a lovely woman.

Cops are pretty silent about this. They are probably "talking" with the son.

If video cameras were installed on every third light pole in Lakewood Ranch we would of had some answers and it may solve future crimes as well.

$15 wouldn't hurt me or anybody (but I don't know about you). For $75 five neighbors could share the cost at $15 a piece (those that live between the three light poles).

Any sensible homeowner can do it on their own. It won't stop a crime but it will easily solve a crime.

But for those that need their beer money will say, "Who will pay?"

No $75 camera on the market for can do what you are suggesting. The weatherproof housings alone cost more than that. Then add a decent quality camera (several hundred $$ each), and get it on the pole (permits, electricity, cabling, labor, etc), and then something has to record what the camera is seeing, and archive it.

I'm assuming that the camera system mounted on every 3rd pole in Palmer Ranch cost far more than $75 a camera?

This is a homeowner project they can do it themselves at that cost. If homeowners want to hire a professional then yes it can cost a couple hundred for camera, parts and labor.

Dang how bad is the crime in Palmer Ranch now that people need camera's on that many poles? Sounds like it went to hell and back since the last time I drove through there.

Well,we haven't had the homicides or violent crimes that Lakewood Ranch had. Maybe the cameras were deterrents, maybe we have more eyeful people-who knows.

There is a lot more crime on the south side of Sarasota down around there these days for some reason. I read about all the time in the Trib.
