We are considering a move to either the Ft Myers/Sarasota/Tampa area. The problem is, so far we have not seen too many pet friendly rentals. We have two cats and are looking for a "safe" area, relaxed environment and close to a beach. Any suggestions to an area would be much appreciated.
Thanks,,
Richard

I'm really surprised because only one condo I found would not allow pets and we have three cats.

Go to either www.rent.com or www.apartment.com and look for pet friendly in the area you want to move.

We always used www.vrbo.com (http://www.vrbo.com - broken link) before we moved here and always found pet friendly and we have a 90 pound Golden Retriever. It may be hard to find exactly what you want this time of year but give it a try.

I've found that some landlords are willing to consider your pets if you call them personally and ask if they'll accept a pet deposit. Many people don't advertise themselves as pet-friendly because they're afraid someone will come in with a zoo of animal terrors, but they wouldn't necessarily be against one or two well-behaved pets. My former landlord did not advertise our house as pet-friendly, but she allowed our large dog to live there on the condition of a pet deposit and a signed document agreeing that we would be responsible for any damages. She also met the dog in advance and decided that she liked him. It wouldn't hurt to try!
