"New College" named #3 best value in the US by Princeton Review and USA Today. This is the fourth time in a row with a top 3 pick, 1 teacher for every 10 students. AARP named Sarasota as one of the best places (sunny) to retire in the US a few months back. Last year Dr Beach named Siesta Key Beach as the best in the US. It's been in the top 5 for years. SWFL in general has made national news often in the last year. I guess that can be both good and bad depending upon your perspective.

I can vouch for the New College part. The tuition is very low compared to what you get. My oldest is a freshman there. The only reason she might transfer is because she's an art student and the school is not exactly geared toward art. If she had her druthers she'd be going to Maryland Institute College of Art, which is around $45K per year more than New College.

Being able to get a great education at a great value in a town like Sarasota with it's beaches is compelling. Unfortunately, some of the costly better colleges in the northeast are located in areas that are now surrounded by high crime areas.
