Moderator cut: consumer complaints not allowed
Now they're bankrupt. And this whole fiasco obviously was not just about a missed fuel payment as they lied to everyone about.
They not only didn't pay for fuel, they didn't pay the two carriers that provided service for them. And they didn't pay the airports they utilizing either. Speaking for the one here they owe the airport $88K and I would imagine it's the same deal across the board.

Thanks beerme1. I had offered to find out what was going because I know the CEO and head of marketing personally but two things stopped me, I got berated on the other thread for sympathizing with the employees because they are most probably losing their jobs, and I have laryngitis and cannot talk.

Okay, I finally got some answers.

Ed Warnick sold Direct Air in September 2011 to an outside group. They took over control and running the company while still keeping Ed as a figurehead. They were not able to pay off the debt Ed had accumulated.

As of Tuesday of last week the grounding was all only a temporary thing.

As of Thursday they came in and fired the majority of their staff.

Direct Air filed bankruptcy, will not attempt to restructure, and the new owners will turn around and buy the company again for pennies on the dollar, with little to no debt, name it something else, and start flying again.

If you want your money back, go through your credit card company.

And if you didn't pay by credit card, you have to file a claim with the escrow bank in charge of the holding funds (good luck there). Luckily, my bank plays by the same fair credit rules as the credit card companies have to (banks/debit cards are NOT required to), so I was able to get my refund within a few days so I can re-book my trips on another carrier. Others I'm afraid are not so lucky.
Personally, I would never use the new post-bankruptcy airline. New management or not, my trust is gone. C'mon Allegiant! Come back to PGD!!!!! There's no competitors now!!

And we, out of Rockford, get "Vision Air". I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole either.

Didn't Value Jet turn into something more successful after its horrific crash in the Everglades?

And don't forget Direct Air (originally Myrtle Beach Direct Air) was the defunct Hooters Airline. The airline was the late CEO of Hooters Bob Brooks dream and because the hundreds of Hooters stores paid a marketing fee to the airline monthly, it helped keep them solvent.

When he found out his illness was terminal, he sold the airline and his former partners with Pace Airlines (who supplied the charter planes) backed Ed Warnick for the new airline.

I'm a old Myrtle Beach girl and the above are all family friends.

And that's all I know.

Personally I will never trust any of these charter type airlines. When did Allegiant stop going to Punta Gorda? When we there on Direct Air a year and a half ago they were advertised in the PGD airport and I believe they also fly up here to Niagara Falls as well.

Well it looks like a bunch of our messages are being deleted because "consumer complaints are not allowed". What a joke, Keeper. Please. It's a few of us politely discussing this LOCAL topic that affects us. A little over-zealous, don't you think? It's a completely legitimate thread, whether you see it that way or not.
