Hey everyone I'm applying for a job in Palmetto and if I get offered the position, will be relocating to the Palmetto/Bradenton area. I was wondering if the north part of Bradenton is safe? I found a place called Fountain Lake apartments that look really nice to live and they are moderately priced but I was wondering if this is in a safe area? Also, How is Bradenton (the whole area in general) for walkability to shopping/dining or public transportation? I don't drive so I would need to walk or take the bus. I would need to take the bus to Palmetto where I would work. If that's safe to do, too?

Any information you guys could provide about which parts of Bradenton and Palmetto are safe would truly be appreciated! Thanks!

There are plenty of safe areas in Bradenton and Palmetto, but like anywhere there are bad places as well.

In Bradenton the north end of town is fine, but you want to go either east or west. The area between 14th St W and 15th St E is the worst part of the city, and things get progressively better as you get further out.

In Palmetto, the same holds true. The west side of town is fine, especially once you get west of about 20th Ave, but can get expensive since most of it is river or canal front. North of the river I'd either be in far west Palmetto, or closer to Ellenton near I-75. There is also no bus service west of 17th Ave in Palmetto.

With walkability and public transportation, you'll have to look at each area closely. If you are in Bradenton you'll want to make sure you're closer to a main road since some neighborhoods can be quite far to walk to anything. Bus service is available, but they don't run very late in the evening or on Sunday, and they tend not to run very far off of the major roads. You can find more info here: Manatee County Government - Manatee County Area Transit

As for the bus in Palmetto, most of the stops are going to be safe most any time that you ride the bus. The stops along route 13 near Washington Park are the the only ones that I'd be worried about.

Start reading the local newspapers daily. They report the crime and you will see the trends.

newscoast dot com is one newspaper to check.

I live in Ellenton. Bus service runs right into Palmetto.

Prior to moving here I lived In Palmetto, off 0f 10th St, the further west you on 10th the better the area. Bus service ends at 17th, so you would have to do some walking if you lived further west.

Palmetto has a few apartment complexs...Ellenton? I really can't think of any...primarily a single family area.

Thanks, everyone! The place I was looking at in Bradenton is right by I-75 and it's on Fountain Lake Circle. It's near 53rd Avenue West. the other roads it's near look like residential streets, that have names instead of numbers. It's a luxury apartment so is it safe to say that the fancier the apartments/condo's are, the better the neighborhood? lol. And it's about a mile away from the 99 bus stop. There's a waiting list for these apartments, though so I don't even know if I could move there.

When you are that far out east, it's generally pretty nice. Good luck!

Here's a video view, not sure if it's a true representation, but nice to have a peak at the complex and area anyway.

Fountain Lake Apartments - YouTube

Had to add this vid, as you get further along into listening to this guy, it's so funny, sure some things changed one way or another since it had first been uploaded.

That's actually right by 41 (14th St), but the entrance is down at 57th.
I don't know anything about that complex, but that's not a horrible neighborhood. Most of the area surrounding it is mobile home parks that are full of retirees and snowbirds.

It's not an entirely horrible area to live without a car either. There's a Sweet Bay supermarket just a couple of blocks south on 41, and Publix and Target in the shopping center down at 60th. There's also a great deal of shopping at the Cortez and 41 intersection which is probably a 5 minute or less bus ride.

Thanks again, everyone! I think I'll try to stick near the bus route since that'd be my only way of getting to and from work in Palmetto so wherever I pick has to be nice and walkable to the 99 bus stop.

Oh and a (silly) but quick question-

Do you guys see those neat little green wild parrots flying around where you live? I was in Miami a couple years ago and they would sqwak and fly around and I thought that was cool to see wild parrots. I'm a nature and animal lover so things like that fascinate me lol!
