Is Sarasota, generally, an affluent area?

On city-data, looks like the average detached home is around $500,000. Does that number sound about right? Many stats are off these days.

If that's right, it seems fairly affluent to me. What do the Sarasota forumers say?

I think Siesta, Longboat, Lido, downtown, Casey Key and other areas are particularly affluent.

There are also many middle class neighborhoods.

Sarasota County has people with variable income and housing. From Welfare/medicaid to 1%ers on Casey Key. The 'average detached home of $500,000 is way off the mark. The average isn't even near $250,000

Many people have money there, however, 50 percent of the population likes to act if they have money there. The ones with the real money dress down.

What? Do you poll the poorly dressed to find out their net worth?

I don't know about Starbucks but they certainly spend a ton of money in my husband's restaurant on St. Armands.

Lots of wannabes in sarasota. If you make good pay, it is a great place though.
