well, i think that can be said for moving anywhere - not FL specific but mane people move here with high expectations of "if I move there i will be happy and my life will be better"

I remember when I moved from NYC to Ct without a job, I sat in my living room and cried for 4 months straight. Once I got a job there, I acclimated andfound it to be wonderful. Its very hard if you are depending on that job for financial and social reasons. My identity was tied to my job. This time in Sarasota, I'm now retired so it's different. I had to go up north to close on my house and find it very depressing to see rain and gray skies every day. Everything is so lush and flowers are looking great here tho. I definitely miss the beaches and having something to do every day.

This is so true. It is family(missing them) and a long-time familiarity (of prior area) that draws many folks back "home". It's hard to uproot from your original area the first time. This is when lots of folks head back...when it is their first massive out of area move and they lived in 1 general metro area their entire life.

Once someone has uprooted from their original hometown more than once, it is a lot easier to move again and again to different areas.
These are the folks that have more than one answer when someone asks "Where are you from?".

Default Any move is stressful

I believe that many people who retire/relocate to Florida are experiencing their first major move.

Every move leaves friends behind, especially if you have lived in one area most of your life.

We moved here about 17 months ago and are as happy as can be.

Maybe because it was are 12th and last move. Maybe it was because I have been vacationing here since the 50's.

But I can't blame the heat or lifestyle as the only reason people move back to where they came from.

we've been here for almost 2 years after living in about the same place my whole life, with all my family around me there. It's hard. It's the only downside of moving. I miss them, I miss being involved in the daily stuff with them but we moved here for a reason and that is working out well for now. I don't know if we'll be here for ever or 5 years. We never had any desire to move to FL but we are really enjoying it for now.

go back and think about the reasons why you moved here in the first place. why did you think it was a good idea then and not now? do the positives here out way the positives where you came from? you cant have it all. usually one remembers the good times and forget the bad. rerun your reasons for moving thru your head again. maybe would even help for some cheap therapy to write it down on paper. pros and cons for here and there.

I've heard that said a lot about Hawaii. Not so much Florida. It's the whole Island fever thing and high living expenses for Hawaii mostly. So much different than a mere vacation there...

I think when transitioning it can take a long time for many people. It's very different for those of us who come from bigger, colder areas lol. It tookme a while.. Not sure why. Chicago was cold and dark, and here we are in paradise-- yet I didn't adjust. Now, 5 years later... Wouldn't leave or go back for the world. Granted, much of my family came after we did. But I still miss my brothers and so on. A few cold winters back home..and here we are in shorts and trust me. The urge will pass to move back..

I think you get that anytime you move. Its always hard to leave what you know behind and start new somewhere else. We left Florida(Ft. Lauderdale) 6 months ago because it was expensive and schools not so great so we decided to try something different in Tx. We are wanting to move back to FL (Sarasota area). Fl has alot to offer, lots of things to do which I miss!

I left "home" and gave up what was potentially a great opportunity to move here. No job,no friends, no family, no place to live, nothing. I was 19 and in love. I would have chased her anywhere, but her family chose Sarasota.
It has been good to me. Sometimes I wish we lived at least part of the year somewhere else, but .....
