First of, how is Sarasota pronounced? Is it Sara-soh-tah? Lol lame i know, but seriously.
i've read a lot so i'll try to avoid questions addressed in other threads.

My husband has another year and a half to get through college to get through the resparitory therapy program out here in New Mexico. We want to move asap after graduation. If he got his Florida liscence how difficult do you think it would be to get a job as a respatory therapist? Do any of the local colleges have bachelor progams to continue his degree?

Also it seems like you all have a gorgeous city with lots for kids to do! I'v found volunteer activities, circus activities, horse riding, sports including cheer, martial arts, and gymnastics! Awesome stuff! Are there also performing arts activties available? Is there a large homeschooling community? Seems like there would be.

I noticed Clearwater had a lot of scienctology related problems, any of that in Sarasota?

Are there a lot of stay at home moms in the area?

I really want to have a large garden and want a house with a half acer or more. I may even want to try raising chickens and trying aquaponics, is that possible in sarasota? I know there are a lot of gated communities that probably wouldn't allow that kind of thing.

To address a few of your questions.

Jobs are hard to find in general. Most of the respiratory therapist jobs right now are PRN (as needed). They are not full time positions with benefits. Here are some employment web sites to try: www.indeed.com, www.employflorida.com, www.simplyhired.com, www.jobfocus.com, www.heraldtribune.com, www.sunherald.com.

You can also try all of the local hospitals and medical facilities.

Hospitals Charlotte County, FL
Charlotte Regional Medication Center - http://www.charlotteregional.com/default.aspx
Fawcett Memorial Hospital - http://www.fawcetthospital.com/
Peace River Regional Medical Center - http://www.peaceriverregional.com/default.aspx
Englewood Community Hospital - http://englewoodcommhospital.com/home/index.dot

Hospitals Sarasota County, FL
Venice Regional Medical Center - http://www.veniceregional.com/default.aspx
Sarasota Memorial Hospital - http://www.smh.com/
Doctors Hospital of Sarasota - http://www.doctorsofsarasota.com/
Sarasota Memorial Emergency Room and Health Care Center at North Port - http://www.smh.com/p.aspx?p=28

Here is a link to Respiratory Therapy Schools in FL - http://www.bestedsites.com/respiratory-therapy/florida/. You can check college web sites for programs and see if any of them have scientology. Just do a search on the Internet.

There are some Performing Arts locations in the Sarasota area. Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, The Center for Performing Arts in Punta Gorda, North Port Performing Arts Center in North Port, Neel Performing Arts Center in Bradenton.

Some people do home school their children. There are some stay at homes mom and even dads down here. There are some mommy meet up groups too. http://www.meetup.com/cities/us/fl/sarasota/

If you want to have a large garden and chickens and have a half acre of more you would want to find a property that is zoned agricultural or will allow animals. Most of the communities in Sarasota do not allow that. You would have to live in a rural area more inland. You may want to try North Port Estates which is in southern Sarasota County.

North Port Estates – acreage home sites for horses and farm animals
If you have dreamed of living in Southwest Florida and want to still feel like you are living in the country, then North Port Estates may be for you. North Port Estates is located north of I-75 in North Port in southern Sarasota County. It offers a variety of price ranges for single family homes.

There are sprawling farm homes to modern elaborate estates. Most of the lots are zoned agricultural and qualify for a USDA loan. Many of the properties have long driveways and some are gated, which provides for privacy and seclusion. Some of the properties have ponds.

If you want to raise farm animals, you can select a home that has an outbuilding. Some of the animals that owners have within North Port Estates are horses, goats, emus, dogs, and chickens. It is considered a horse-lovers paradise. If you don’t want animals, but just need room for your boat, RV or other toys, you can find the space here.

While driving around the area you will see dense woods of oak and pine. In addition, you probably will encounter some of the wildlife such as deer, turkey, bobcats, birds, alligators, and more.

The nice thing about the area is it’s convenience to local amenities. It takes about 10 minutes to get to shopping, golf, restaurants, grocery and gas stations. Venice Beach is close by and there is easy access to I-75 which will take you to Ft. Myers to the south and Sarasota to the north.

To search for homes in this area go to the local MLS: http://myfloridahomesmls.com/.
