OK, it's now 1am and a police helicopter has been circling low over my house for over an hour. Sheriff's dept won't say what's going on and there's nothing nearby on the 911 transcripts. I live in Laurel Oak community off of Bee Ridge west of I-75. Interestingly this seems to happen about 2 nights per week. Anyone know what the deal is?

If you think the helicopter is annoying, just wait until they get a drone to spy on your activites in your backyard.

Police ships usually have an IR camera that detects heat sources. A "grow house" gives off a lot of heat that the camera picks up.

OK, so why disturb an entire neighborhood for 90 minutes in the middle of the night to perform what might be considered an illegal search trying to find someone growing some weed? I dare say that our police resources are better spent, if that is indeed what they were doing.

A portion of our real estate taxes goes to the Sheriffs Dept. Somebody in the Dept decides we need a helicopter. So a million dollars is spent on one. Then you need pilots and observers 24/7 That's another million dollars a year. And it burns $5 a gallon JP fuel.
But not much of anything going on at 3AM but the pilot needs x amount of flying time per month to maintain a pilot license. Yup, there just seems to be a condition that needs helicopter coverage buzzing over your house for an hour.

LMAO, we had the exact same thing when we lived on Casey Key. The copters would start around 11:30pm & circle for at least an hour. It freaked us out at first. Surely they were looking for a felon on the run, hiding in someone's yard, right?!

Apparently there were just some suspicious 80 year olds on our end..

We get it in Charlotte Co a LOT too. When we first moved here from a medium-sized city in MI, we thought we were in South Central LA as much as the helicopters fly around. What a waste of tight budget dollars! I think our county has 2 or 3 copters. For a county of this population, one would think ONE would be PLENTY!
