Just came across this story: Re-filed lawsuit seeks reopening of Midnight Pass | The Sarasota News Leader

We are building on little Sarasota bay, and the prospect of getting some well needed water circulation definitely has my interest. At least that is the conclusion I have come to based upon this feasibility study: http://scg.co.sarasota.fl.us/midnightpass/index.htm

A project of this magnitude undoubtedly has supporters on both sides of the issue. Since I currently live up in the midatlantic, I am not really that familiar with the local politics of reopening the pass...

What is the general sentiment regarding the possible restoration of the pass?

Eh, this is an age old debate here.. every so many years someone or something will bring the issue to light again. From what I've seen & been told, it pretty much boils down to the environmentalists vs. everyone else. Not hopeful anything will change this time around either..

Default Tree steps for reopening midnight pass.

1. The entire budget for reopening will not exceed $1.00. This will remove at least 50% of the opposition
by not costing the taxpayer any money.

2. No large construction equipment of any type will be used during the reopening phase. This will
result in a zero environmental impact which should eliminate the environmentalist opposition.

3. The construction of a 6 inch, one way flow ditch, with a backflush valve will produce a natural
reopening of midnight pass within a year.

Letting nature slowly reopen midnight pass will produce a smooth transition between the old and new
ecosystem. Plans exist and can be implemented within weeks.

LOL. I've lived on Little Sarasota Bay for 14 years. Real shame but it will never be openned by man. Now if nature has its way.....
