Hello to all - I've been searching the threads and have found excellent info on the Bradenton/Sarasota areas. From that I've done a little research myself. We're a family of 4 that may be relocating to the area...I have a 15-year-old daughter who is gifted, and a 10-year-old son with special needs. He is fully mainstreamed (here in DE), and is an Honor Roll student - academics is not his problem. I'm looking for a school district that can work with his current IEP (mainly for social issues) along with an awesome music program, as he's a gifted sax player. I'd love to have both kids in the same district, but don't have an issue with driving one or both to their respective schools..I do that now! Thanks for any help you can offer!

My grandson has Autism and goes to Laurel Nokomis. He does not live in that area, but is bussed from his home near Fruitville Rd in Sarasota to this school. He is in a special needs classroom and is not mainstreamed. That is the only school where he could attend. They didn't give him a choice.
I would imagine they would test your son before placing him. You can contact the ESE Liason and have your records sent. I am not sure how they work it. My grandson goes to social skills classes on ocassional Saturdays. It is through FACE Autism.
You could contact both school districts in Manatee and Sarasota Counties to see what options and placement services they have for your son and daughter.
