Hi All! My family and I will be in Sarasota in a few days and are looking for fun "to do" ideas. I know there are a million of those websites, but we're curious what the locals like to do. We have a 4 y.o. girl and 2 y.o. boy. We like nature-y stuff and want to get a feel for what Sarasota is really like since this is also a scouting trip for a possible move. Favorite restaurants (looking for places with good food plus something cool for the kids to do, like watching the boats pass. Heard Marina Jacks was nice?) What is the best Amish restaurant? Really appreciate it guys!!!

Jungle Gardens
Mote Aquarium
Sarasota Childrens Garden
Myakka State Park

G Wiz Science Museum is fun but better for your 4 year old than your 2 year old. 4 might even be a bit too young...

A LeBarge cruise could be fun:

Welcome Aboard LeBarge Tropical Cruises - Sarasota, Florida

Definitely recommend Jungle Gardens for the kids.

There are neat waterfront restaurants on the Bradenton Beaches, kids usually love those.

Just want to "third" the Jungle Gardens. Be sure to pick up a bag or two of flamingo food at the register when you come in, and make sure your camera is charged. The picture and video I have of my wife feeding a circle of 20 or so flamingos is priceless, I can't imagine what it would be like for children.

The flamingos are my favorite.. they are a riot. I once had one try & pick off my sunglasses & it was hilarious (after I stopped being freaked out). Not to hijack the thread but this is one of my most favorite photos...

My son feeding them. I swear it stopped & posed for the picture

We go to the Jungle Gardens once a month with our two children (both under 17 months).

It is calm, family friendly, and fun. There is nothing flashy about it, you cannot buy a beer, there are no rides.

It's a very nice way to spend a day. The staff really seems to love their jobs, too.

Don't go if you do not like birds.
