i am still baffled by a group of people that want to be treated as normal and fit in why their focus every waking hour is devoted to being different.

also the reason that you do not see comments that are non supportive is the pressure to be politically correct and any comments made to the opposite are quickly deleted.

hope this helps with your home search
No, your comments are not very helpful at all. In fact, irrelevant!

dont get to intrigued. what you call a hate fest is just a discussion. see there are two sides to mowt things. what i would suggest is to throw on your favorite music, say like the village people and relax. you see hate, i see a conversation. i already explained my theory on homphobia. i believe you are the one with the fear factor that likes to spew trouble making questions.

The people we bought our house in Nokomis from were a gay couple in their late 40, early 50s probably...who had been together as couple fairly long time...they had moved from the Miami area before living in Nokomis...
from what my daughter said they had friends in the neighborhood == heterosexual couples mainly I guess, but still had dinners and stuff with them...

our daughter and SIL thought they were good neighbors--but they were just older generation so not really interested in same things...

By the way, I have a theory that gettingoutofjersey is a fictional poster, designed by the board to give a sense of "diversity." Nice try, City-Data, but I am on to your little plan.

Just saying.

As a registered republican, I take offense to the above post. My sister, best friend, niece, and nephew are just a few of the gay people in my life. I am an environmentalist, pro choice, and a staunch supporter of same sex marriage.

Please don't generalize.

To the OP, I have many gay friends in Sarasota, my best friend is a lifelong resident. Sarasota is very gay friendly.

Thank you! While we are no longer registered Republican (We live in SC now and we don't selected a party at registration), this describes us pretty well.

While I'm finding it harder to agree with lots of what the party believes in, I have a harder time agreeing with the other party. This party wasn't always controlled by religious extremist.

We're northern CA and New England people, but would really like to live in Florida (we think) and in an area not too pricey (house buying) or overly conservative. Broward county and the Miami area were too expensive and we are thinking we might be better suited for the western coast of Florida. We have been trying to stay around $200k or under. We would like to be in a city/town somewhat near the water.

You will find Sarasota unique and in as sense quite diverse. As mentioned there are those pocket areas you may want to avoid, but overall, I believe you will find the area most welcoming. If you do decide to move here, I hope you'll find your new life here as rewarding as many of us that choose to live here do.

Thanks! This is very helpful. It's a major downsizing and move. Sarasota sounds like a wonderful city in many many ways!
