just checking on those who have gone to Pier 22 for a nice evening out, we have a few relatives coming up next month from the east coast that probably wouldn't care for things we like, no Sharkeys is not an option! We thought we would try something a little more refined, coming from Chicago we had plenty of those establishments but here we find it lacking. So I figured I would put it out here for those who have experienced Pier 22 or some other place similar, your help and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

We love Pier 22 and go there all the time. Menu has a lot of options at mostly reasonable prices. Beautiful ambiance on the water. I would call the place "casual upscale." They also have a covered patio bar and outdoor terrace seating.

Hope this helps!

And sitting smack on the beautiful Manatee River. By the way, the RiverWalk in Bradenton opens officially tomorrow, it is going to be a huge asset for the city.

Honestly - I found it gross. The place is in a gorgeous location but that is where the good ends. The place is in major MAJOR need of renovation. Think old white stained ceiling tiles, cracked tile floors, old fashioned grandma tables and chairs and don't even get me started on the 80's bathrooms. If you are looking for something refined or upscale you will not find it here...sorry! Service was very weak and the food wasn't even that good.

Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess. This place is one of our favorites, and I disagree with you on every count. This is a historic 1920's building, it is not going to be perfect. But I DO agree it is NOT one of those snooty expensive places, just casual upscale as I said - a nice place with a good chef and it won't break the bank.

Even if it doesn't bother you - the decor is as I stated, majorly dated. Blah. I guess food and service can be subjective. If the OP is looking for an upscale place...this ain't it. Hopefully the OP can go there and report back.
