Hi,

This time of year offers lots of special events in our area, from holiday boat parades to festivals and even ice skating and SNOW.

Here is a list of upcoming events I've managed to track down so far:

Nov 30 - Dec 2nd

Sarasota Crafts Show, Roberts Arena at the Sarasota fairgrounds, 10 - 6 & Sun 10 - 4, adults $9


Dec 1

G.T. Bray Park, Bradenton 4 - 7:30 - A Night Before Christmas Celebration
Santa arrives by helicopter, games, cookie crafts, hay rides, bounce houses and 10 tons of SNOW

Bradenton Blues Festival, Riverwalk Park 11 am - 8 pm -- tickets required, www.BradentonBluesFestival.org

Sarasota Holiday Parade, downtown Sarasota 7 pm -- floats, marching bands and Santa

Venice Boat Parade 6 pm -- runs along Venice inter coastal waterway between Albee Rd bridge in Nokomis to Circus Bridge in Venice, boats decked out in holiday lights


Dec 7

Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis 5 pm, downtown Bradenton, lots of fun raising money for a good cause

St. Armands Circle Holiday Night of Lights 6 - 9, tree lighting ceremony at 6:15 pm, various musical groups performing all evening. I love this event and always try to attend.

Lakewood Ranch Music on Main, Lakewood Ranch 6 - 9 pm, live music, face painting, events for kids and adults, can bring your pet if on a short leash.


Dec 8

Sarasota Boat Parade of Lights 6 pm, bay front. Boats decked out in holiday lights and decorations. Some of the entries are really amazing.

Siesta Key Beach Sandy Claws Beach Run 8 am, 1 mile fun run & 5k run, entry required. Call 861-5000

Anna Maria Island Christmas Parade 10 am, Bayfront Park to Coquina Beach.

Winter Wonderland, downtown Bradenton 5 - 9 pm, live music, street party, Santa and SNOW.

Bradenton Holiday Boat Parade 6:30 pm -- runs down the Manatee River towards the new Riverfront Park.

Holmes Beach Annual Winterfest 10 - 4:30 both Sat and Sunday, free admission, lots of fun things to do, food and music.


Dec14

Holiday around the Ranch, Lakewood Ranch Main St 6 - 9 pm -- tree lighting, ice skating, Santa

Snow Fest, Sarasota Fairgrounds - runs thru Dec 23rd, M-F 5-10 pm & Sat,Sun 12-10 pm -- ice skating, bounce houses, Santa, Frosty, Rudolph the Reindeer and SNOW. Free admission, $5 parking donation, no pets allowed.


Dec 15

St. Armands Circle Porsches in the Park 10 am - 4 pm. Always popular event.



Dec 15 & 16

Sarasota Holiday Arts & Crafts Show, downtown at Five Points Park 10 am - 4 pm, free admission.


Dec 15 - 17

Selby Gardens Lights in Bloom Show, adults $14, kids free.


Dec 16

Annual Christmas Concert & Community Carol Sing 7 pm, First Methodist Church in downtown Sarasota on Pineapple, free offering.


Dec 20

Downtown Bradenton street party 6 - 11 pm, live music, vendors, fun things for the family.


Dec 27 - 30

Sailor Circus Holiday Spectacular 7 pm nightly, a must see event if you've never been to the Sailor Circus. Tickets 366-0156


Running throughout December

Holiday at Ca'd'Zan (the John & Mable Ringling home), 5 - 8 pm on specified nights, adults $10 & kids $5. See the Ringling Mansion decked out in Venetian Christmas finery. More info at www.ringling.org

Dec 8th - The Nutcracker by the Dance Theatre of Bradenton, 7 pm, Manatee High School Auditorium

Dec 15th - FL Cracker Christmas at the Manatee Village Historical Park (Manatee Ave east of 1st St) starting at 10 am -- old fashioned Christmas celebration, heritage artisans, history for the kids shown in a fun way

Dec 17th - Deck the Paws Open House by the Sarasota Humane Society, 2331 15th St, 11 am - 4 pm -- bring your pets for photos with Santa, bake sale, pet parade, proceeds help the Humane Society

Went to the parade downtown Saturday and it was so much fun! Looking forward to St. Armands on Friday and Phillippi Park on Sunday!

The Community Youth Development group is hosting a Gingerbread Festival this weekend (Dec 14-16) at the Potter building at the Sarasota Fairgrounds. Vote for your favoriate gingerbread house, watch gingerbread house decorating contests by both professional and youth chefs, plus there will be gingerbread houses for sale. Went to the Jungle Gardens for the lights last night, and it was REALLY nice. The Santa there is excellent, by the way.

Even the food wasn't half bad.

Highly recommended.
