Is the red tide bothering anyone else?

Hubs and I went to Siesta and spent the day Thursday and were fine at the time because the red tide has moved out.

However, we decided for some stupid reason to spend a lot of time in the water. As a result, he got an Upper Resp. Infection and my eyes are so sore and red, I cannot wear my contacts.

I have a couple of coworkers battling the same thing.

I haven't been to the beach in many months. But when I have been to the beach when there is red tide, yes it bothers me. My eyes water, my throat gets scratchy and it sometimes burns my nose. Once you get it cleared out of your system you will be fine. They say that if you have respiratory problems you shouldn't go near the beach when there is red tide. Hope you feel better soon.

I was bird watching on Siesta beach this week. Didn't notice any respiratory problems but there were still dead fish and fish bones in places. I'd be afraid to walk barefoot there for a while

We will be moving to the Sarasota area. How often does red tide happen? Does it stay around for a long time? Is it only at certain times of the year? Any info would be appreciated. We are not familiar with red tide. Thanks.

Default More information please .....

Bumping up this thread for more information on red tide ~ from residents of the Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice area.

Is the discomfort experienced by the red tide exclusive to beach goers or does the air carry any irritants and does it exacerbate other sinus allergies ? How often would you say this occurs ?
