Any recommendation for a bakery where I can order a 'good cake' for about 30 people? No supermarket cakes please, just a yummy, home made type of cake.

There is a place in Sarasota on Fruitville Rd called Cakes by Ron. We ordered one from them and it was delicious. It wasnt cheap, but it was worth every penny. They are very skilled artists also and do just about anything. There cupcakes are good too.

End of thread. Ron did our wedding cake and it was awesome. Note, however, that he is not nearly so personable as one might expect from a master cake maker. But don't let that bother you--he knows what he's doing.
When you go in, he will probably offer you a sample, and you'll be sold immediately.

The only reference to bakeries on this forum, was Small Batch Bakery. Went there, ordered a 10" Strawberry Shortcake. It must have weighed 20lbs. Absolutely delicious but quite expensive.

Pastries by Design makes some good cakes. They have a website and they are in Lakewood Ranch.

For a phenomenal cheesecake I have THE place- Sylvia's Heavenly Cheesecakes. They come in a variety of flavors and are so yummy. She is a local gal from Palm Aire, works in my dentists office full time and does these on the side. We ordered one and it was light, fluffy, silky and oh so creamy!!! A bit pricey, but YUMO.
