The sunshine should return in time for a great weekend to get out and do things, and there are lots of things to do in our area this weekend, including several big events:
FL Wine & Balloon Festival runs April 4th - 7th. 18 different events, including winemaker dinners, wine tasting, charity auction, hot air balloon rides, gourmet food trucks, live music, car show and arts & crafts vendors. For more info go to

Downtown Bradenton by the river front is the location for the Desoto Heritage Festival's big
Seafood Festival, April 5 - 7. Lots of great food, live music, live entertainment and vendors. $2 per person.
Sarasota Film Festival runs April 5 - 14th, huge annual event in Sarasota, over 180 films to be offered, some free events, stars and programs for the kids. Mariel Hemingway will be in attendance to present a documentary film during the course of the festival. For more info, go to

Saturday night is the annual
Orchid Ball at Selby Gardens to benefit the botanical gardens, black tie affair, tickets $300 per person. This year's theme is "Midnight at the Oasis" aka the movie Sex in the City 2 goes to Abu Dhabi. Starts at 6 pm.
(By the way, April 13th is another big annual event, the
Cattle Barons Ball , benefiting the American Cancer Society, tickets are $250 per person.)
Friday night is the monthly
Live from Downtown Sarasota, It's Friday Night & Music on Main, Lakewood Ranch . Both events run 6 - 9 pm with live music and lots of fun things for the family.
Saturday morning is the 27th annual Mote's
Run for the Turtles. Event supports sea turtle conservation. Registration starts at 6:30 am, the 5K run starts at 8 am, 1 mile walk/run at 7:30 am. Siesta Key Beach at the public beach gazebo.
Also Saturday is the
Youth Arts Fest in downtown Sarasota, Five Points Park & Selby Library. 500 student performers and exhibits, 9 am - 4:30 pm.
April 6th & 7th is the
Arts & Crafts show at Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach city hall field, free admission. On Saturday is also the
Pulled Pork Cook-off at Bridge Street.
Sunday is a
Classic Car Show at Centennial Park in downtown Venice, 9 am - 2 pm.
Worth mentioning are 3 big events coming up the following weekend to put on your "to do" list:
Siesta Fiesta on Siesta Key, always a fun event.
Venice Shark Tooth Festival - loads of fun for the kids and the kids at heart.
Gulf Coast Rhythm & Ribs Fest - at the Manatee fairgrounds. Good food and good music.
