Good Morning, All

I read this yesterday and it's been on my mind ever since:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/07/sc...tees.html?_r=0

Five percent of Florida's Manatee population dead in 1 year is obviously sickening.

I remember seeing references to "red tide" being made here on the forum - does anyone have personal experience as to the "respiratory problems" caused by walking on the beach when the red tide is "on?"

Z

red tide is not a lot of fun....it makes my eyes burn and it's hard to breathe. it's best to stay away from the beach when red tide is out there.

The red tide bothers me and my husband also. It caused a respiratory infection in him and for me made it next to impossible to wear my contacts. It only bothers me when I'm on the beach. When I'm off the beach it doesn't bother me at all.

You can tell it is close by when everyone is coughing on the beach.

That's distressing. Is there a "Red Tide Warning" or anything to give notice?

When it's in bloom, does it affect the whole region, or is it more localized to certain beaches, etc?

(My wife just accepted a position in Bradenton, so I suppose I'll see for myself, soon enough.)

Red tide bothers me. I won't go to the beach if it is in the area. It burns to breathe in and I get watery eyes.

You can go to this web site for Red Tide updates: Red Tide - Statewide Status

red tide should only bother you when you are on the beach. since it is in the water as soon as you leave the beach you are no longer near it. therefor it will not bother you any longer.

It will be in the local papers and on the local news. You just need to avoid the beach during this time.

However, it may not bother you or your wife at all.

I NEVER had any allergy issues at all, even pollen until I quit smoking. Go figure.
