Where it is REALLY changing and almost BOOMING is out east in the University Parkway Corridor. You have Lakewood Ranch which is ever expanding and a lot of medical services there, many other communities, but more importantly the huge, new upscale Benderson mall currently being built. This is next to the new rowing center. All kinds of hotels and apartments are slated to be built within the next few years. I call the area "New Sarasota" (kind of like New Tampa). It's unbelievable how much that area has already grown and changed just since we have moved here a few years ago.

I can totally tell that part of Sarasota is expanding. I saw many parts of that last year when we were in town. I'm looking forward to seeing how things have already changed when we head down again.

First saw Sarasota in early 1960...beautiful little sleepy Southern village, with sand blowing in the streets of the little downtown....but today? Where did that little town go? Now paved over with concrete and blacktop and strip centers, the trees almost all gone, no shade to block the blazing sun or to cool the air....I miss that little town....in it's place now is an unattractive "Mid-western suburb" filled with complacent, self-important Yankees....

It has to be one or the other not both. So which is it? Mid Westerners or Yankees?

The big changes, my friend, lie ahead in the next 20 years....that is the reason why you did not notice them over the course of the last ten years....
