I am a Colorado resident looking for a change for myself and my daughter and from everything I've read here, we will look at Sarasota first (liberal, vegan, beaches, better schools, etc.)

I am not wealthy, work from home as a Virtual Assistant, and may be looking for a part time job doing administrative or retail work.

I am wondering what neighborhoods you would recommend as well as high schools. We have two dogs and two cats and while I would like to rent, I know what kind of challenge it is to rent with animals, so we may be looking at a condo or small home. Specific neighborhood information would be so appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I'm open to other liberal, vegan-friendly places with a low cost of living and good schools.

Sarasota is not a low cost of living place. To be honest, I don't know of any where in Florida that is.

Cost of living is a relative term. I currently live in Boulder County, Colorado.

No way would I ever uproot a high school student just because I was looking for something different.

I don't know you're circumstances but I've never known Boulder to be a particularly spendy town.

You will not find a "vegan, liberal" town anywhere. Meat eaters move in and out all the time.

I'd wait until your daughter graduates from high school and heads off to college and rethink this.

Unlike previous posters, I have no judgement on others' lifestyles.

If someone had posted the same thread about Colorado, I may have suggested they check out areas like Boulder and not Colorado Springs, but I wouldn't have made any judgements.

If someone had posted they wanted to live in Colorado but wanted to stay away from "liberal hippie" towns I would have conversely suggested they might not want to consider Boulder, but I wouldn't have thrown in an editorial, so why here, why now?

Can we get back to the original topic?

Thank you.

For the record, I am a lacto ovo vegetarian and my husband is vegan.

Sarasota doesn't really have a low cost of living and is quite conservative. It's also the whitest city I've ever seen.

I'm not judging you at all, I'm just saying wait until your daughter gets out of school.

Thanks blueherons. It wasn't a specific reply to you. Our circumstances have changed and my daughter and I are looking for something different before she enters high school. I appreciate your input.

You might find a more vegan liberal residents around St. Pete or Tampa. I believe you can find more folks who share your lifestyle around a larger city. You won't be living on the gulf of Mexico but the beaches are not far away
