I have heard a few people describe a town in NC as Little Sarasota because so many from here summer there. I can't remember the name but after researching NC recently my guess would be Ashville. Anybody else have an idea?

My husband was born and raised in Asheville and we get up there at least once a month to see his aging parents.

I've never once met anyone in Asheville from Sarasota. I've met tons of people from other areas of Florida and of course NYC but never Sarasota.

Could it be Hendersonville, Black Mountain, Montreat, Maggie Valley, or the Highlands?

FWIW, Asheville is too big to be little anything. It has a larger population than Sarasota.

I agree. We had a second home there for three years, and met transplants from everywhere BUT Sarasota! I'm thinking maybe the town is Hendersonville, which I believe is full of retirees. Asheville is at least the same size of Sarasota, so definitely not "little" anything.

I think you might be referring to Cashiers. I've run into many people from Sarasota up there. In fact, some of the shop owners (at least before the recession) found that the opposite seasons were great for business and just closed the other store in the off-season. Cute town - you should visit!

Popular vacation spot for Sarasotans. Wonderful place and just a day's drive:

Having lived in western NC I'm very familiar with this area. Although absoulutly beautiful its very remote. The roads are also very winding and travel does take awhile.
