.... from NE Cape Coral. I know, far, right? Lol.

Spouse works in Punta Gorda so the commute is the same. I stay home with 1.5 yo son (work part time at a craft store, just a few hrs, shouldnt be hard to find similar work there.) Also have HS senior daughter who will be graduating this year, college in FtM.
Cape Coral is going downhill. Our neighborhood is sad. I love the trees and privacy of North Port. Other than real estate research and driving through, I am not really sure of the atmosphere. Is there a lot to do with little kids? Parks, trails, etc. Where I am now we are close to a lot (mostly in ft myers of course). Beaches?
Im alsovery near Sun Splash. Anything similar in NP? Places for mommy & me activities? Right now we do gymnastics
Any info on children-friendly local activities would be great.

Also wondering about public transportation, as we only have one car.
Are there a lot of sidewalks/bike lanes? North Cape isnt exactly bike-friendly.

Thanks!

For more information on the City of North Port, visit their web site at: North Port, FL : Home

North Port does have a lot of activities for kids. There are parks and playgrounds, the library, events at Morgan Family Community Center and George Mullen Activity Center, The Boys and Girls Club, the YMCA, lots of youth sports. There are a few gymnastics facilities around and they are opening one in North Port.

You can join the Moms Meetup group - Moms Meetup of Venice, Sarasota & Port Charlotte (Venice, FL) - Meetup

Along Toledo Blade and Sumter there are bike paths with little gazebos and rest areas. There are sidewalks on a lot of the streets in North Port because some of the kids walk to school. North Port has the SCAT bus transportation, but that is only in Sarasota County. Charlotte County does not have local bus transportation only Dial A Ride and Sunshine.

The closest beaches to North Port are Venice and Englewood, each about 20-25 minutes away, depending on where you would live in North Port. There is a weekly farmers market. North Port does have good schools and many of them are newer schools.

There is a large shopping plaza in North Port between Sumter and Salford on US 41 (Tamiami Trail). If you work at a craft store you may be interested in applying at Hobby Lobby in the Cocoplum Village Shops. There is also Michael's in Port Charlotte.

There are some newer and affordable homes in North Port. There are regular neighborhoods and deed-restricted neighborhoods. It all depends on your price range. Are you looking to rent a home or purchase a home?

North Port has a huge brand new community center, lots of playgrounds, and the N.P. library has great kids programs all summer, also and Art Center with a fun art camp, and lots of Moms meet ups for little ones.
We just moved here and we live in the Cranberry schools district and so far love it here - I have a 10- and 9 yr old boys and we have found all types of activities here and I think smaller kids have even more activities.
Also - huge greenways sidewalks that are perfect for riding bikes off of the street.
