Anyone here have any recommendations for Mexican restaurants in the Bradenton or Sarasota area?
My lady friend is from California and would like to eat at a authentic Mexican restaurant.

I like Mi Pueblo & Mexicail.

While it's not a restaurant, Acapulco Tropical in Bradenton has some of the best Mexican prepared food around. There are small tables in the back where the prepared food is, you can eat in, or take out.

Jose's in Bradenton has the best authentic Cuban food, if you're inclined.

While most Mexican in the area is awful, I have found Burritos on Stickney Point to be better than passable. It is a little dive-ish, which helps. There are some legit Mexican markets and a taqueria a few doors down, but I have not been inside.

People seem to like Mi Pueblo, but I have tried twice to no avail.

Note: I lived in The Mission in SF for several years. I have an associates degree in Mexican food.

Hands down the best and most authentic place that I have tried is La Malinche on St Armand's. No contest. It is however, very expensive.

When we aren't feeling wealthy we like the aforementioned Burritos, and also frequent El Torro Bravo which is literally 3 doors down in the same strip mall on Clarke and has that New Mexico style to an extent.

My feelings on Mi Pueblo are mixed. The location on Bee Ridge is only a couple of blocks from our house and is hard to avoid. I've found a couple of things on their menu that I like if properly dosed with the hot salsa, which you need to ask for. We've found the one on University to be slightly better but it's further away so we don't get there often.

Two Senoritas is to be avoided in my opinion as is the other joint on Main st whose name escapes me.

I haven't found that Cali/Mex style anywhere yet but the hunt is always on.

Burritos or El Toro Bravo.

All else is just awful however I haven't tried that place on St. Armands.

Plaza Mexico in Port Charlotte is awesome! They are opening a location in Venice, not sure but it may be open by now. Way better than Mi pueblo, and Two Senoritas!
Anyone that's in search of real Mexican food like you'd find from street vendors in Mexico and brave enough to try it... There's a roach coach type trailer called Nando's on McCall in Englewood. They even have sopes and tortas! Very authentic!!!!
