Look, I understand that media outlets want to charge for content. But the H-T is hardly a media giant, and though some of the stories are local, a lot of the content is from AP, NY Times, and Wash. Post. (Not that this is different from many newspapers). I don't know, maybe it will work for them, but there's no way I'm going to spend $10/mo for a second rate paper.

As an aside, I wonder how their advertisers are going to feel about a huge drop in traffic?

It's really a stupid move on their part. The Bradenton Herald did the same a few months ago. Both "papers" are barely worth reading for free......they are going to lose most of their advertisers I think.

Naples Daily News went to a pay subscription online, (though I think home delivery can get it online for 'free').

Have been doing online subscription for NYTimes, WallStJournal & Barrons for years.

Even our local rag, (emphasis on rag), here in Waynesville, NC wants ~$120 a year for online.

Many papers across the country, almost regardless of mkt size/subscriber size are moving to pay subscription on line or some combo of home del/on line pricing. It is what it is, though I pay little attention to online ads, whereas my eye roves to ads in a paper, 'in hand', fwiw.

So sad. This was a way for me to stay in touch while I'm out of the area. I hope they reverse their decision.

The Sun Newspaper gives tidbits of articles online and you have to pay to read the full online version. Before I moved to Florida I would read the articles online all the time to see what was going on and to keep up with current events. Now people can't do that unless they pay. I guess the newspapers have to get money somehow because many people no longer get the regular newspaper delivered to their home, although we still do.
