I read this story over the weekend in the local Sarasota newspaper regarding a very well known, local real estate attorney and debated whether to post a link to the story on the c-d forum. After much consideration, I decided to post the link as she IS a very well known attorney in our RE community and if I were a buyer or seller selecting an attorney to handle my closing, I personally would want to be aware of the story whether I agreed with it's conclusion or not.

I read that story and my first thought was "hatchet job" but, I have to admit, as I continued to read I found myself thinking that this won't be the end of it. I've had two closings that I can think of with her but never met her (I was there, she wasn't) so I don't have any personal bias but I think it's important to keep in mind the economic climate in which these purchases were made. Let's be honest, the lenders didn't give a hoot what people were doing or not doing...they just wanted business and the rules were completely secondary.

I think that is Federal fraud---isn't it?
and maybe enough for the state legal board to disbar her?

I'd back not using a certain attorney in PC. There are some really great attorneys and title companies in the area and there are some absolutely atrocious ones as well.

I think people should have the right to say what their experience is with a specific company or individual. If they don't like it they can refute the evidence. The problem is that many businesses threaten to sue if you mention a "problem". Case in point, the various websites who have been sued for letting people post feedback about certain companies.

When you have court docs to back the case up...well.
