Does anyone have a referral for someone to come give us an estimate for a new construction of a lanai? I think we bought the only home in Sarasota that doesn't have one. Sigh.
My husband is a really good DIY'er and wants to just build it himself, but the permits and regulations might keep him from being able to. What stinks is that he could probably build one stronger and safer for far less and we might not be able to afford putting one up at all if we go with a company...but I am at a loss who to call for a price.
Thanks,
Amy

The construction of a lanai requires engineering and a permit. You need to hire someone to do it. Absolute Aluminum - Outdoor Kitchens | Pool Screen Enclosure | Pergolas |Outdoor Furniture or a local contractor.

Can OP have engineer draw up plans?

Then OP take plans to city and get a permit for him to do work himself. Not suggesting he hide fact he would be doing the work. I understand need for sound design to be able to withstand hurricane winds, permitting and inspection, but is there anything that prohibits him from doing the work himself?

I know Casa pools have a lanai design they offer for people who have two story homes with no lanai. I looked at using it when I was considering buying a flip without one. base cost is around $4-5k
