I know there is a plethora of parks in the Sarasota area which are perfect for the mornings before it gets too hot, but during the dog days of summer in FL, what do you do, where do you go? Any favorite children's museums, mom/tot classes? What are your fave things to do around town?

FYI, G Wiz closed supposedly for renovations and did not reopen.

Other area things to do in addition to those already listed:

YMCAs offer summer programs for the family
FL Railroad Museum in Parrish
Ringling Circus Museum
Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa
Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa -great kids area
Mixon Fruit Farms in Bradenton has family events year round
Lakewood Ranch offers free music nights & monthly Music on Main events that are family friendly and mostly free
Riverwalk park in downtown Bradenton has events too, mostly family friendly
Anna Maria Island off Bradenton offers lots of family things to do

You will find that there are still special events held during the summer months here.

One of the biggest is the week of events surrounding the big offshore boat races in Sarasota the week before thru the 4th of July.

Sarasota Farmer's Market every Saturday AM.

Downtown Venice has a lot of events year round.

Englewood has several events on Dearborn St. in their arts district.
