When I made monthly trips to Sarasota in 2013, it seemed like it rained about an hour every day. And I was here during that tropical storm in September that had very heavy rain for about 3 days straight. This summer seems like it hardly rains at all by comparison. Found stats in today's paper that show this is not my imagination.

Precipitation in inches
July 2014 ---- 2.15
July 2013 ---- 10.41
Normal ------- 9.21

August 2014 ---- 1.33 (maybe not fair since month isn't over)
August 2013 ---- 11.32
Normal ----------- 9.81

Before I moved here, I remember reading a thread in which people talked about how they liked the rain: Liked the way it cooled things off. Liked the way it watered the yard. Liked sitting on the lanai and listening to the rain.

That thread was a big deal for me in changing the way I thought about rain. It had never occurred to me that rain could be enjoyed rather than just being tolerated. Now I am missing the rain.

Global warming! It's too hot for the rain to come out and play.

Wow, does anyone think water shortages will start to come to Florida now?

Cardiff, except for the few days this past summer where we got a bit of rain, it is one of the driest summers I have ever seen. And hottest, we have had many days in mid 90s, usually it is only about 92 with daily showers. Strange pattern this year.

I can't back it up with data but it seems to me that we've had less rain than less year but still plenty of it. The lakes are filled around here (Lakewood Ranch--Summerfield).

Various Tampa and local meteorologists been discussing the weather pattern changes this summer. Normally in the summer the winds blow east to west, setting us up on this coast for late afternoon/early evening rain showers. This summer, because of the position of a high near Florida, the wind pattern has been reversed, flowing west to east. So we are getting morning showers that are hit and miss and the east coast is getting our nice soaking rains in the late afternoon. Those living closest to the coast are getting the least amount of rain this summer. Unfortunately they are saying we will be staying in this reverse pattern for most of this week as well, so expect days to be hot and dry.

Meanwhile in the northeast, we have been experiencing the coolest summer that I can recall. In fact, I would not call it summer at all. Our high on the 4th of July was only 74!

I got 13 inches of rain on Long Island last wednesday and never saw a drop of it. Went to sleep at 1:30, woke up at 7am and pool was completely up to the top of the coping. Only took 4 hours total to get to work, thats after giving up after 1.5 hours the first attempt. Trade you.
