These bicyclists have no respect for others. I have seen then many times riding in traffic rather than using their little bike lanes. Then, as I said, they flip the drivers off for honking at them.

Ben, that is your opinion. News article columns are
a comfortable format that we like to use for this
board.

So are you implying when given a chance you would
prefer to read newspapers with an article stretching
edge to edge on a newspaper page?

We feel silly about that scenario as you feel silly
about ours.

Maybe CNN.com would be interested in hearing of
your carriage return ideas.

Uhh, no. I wasnt agreeing with you. You are quoting out of context. I was commenting that your first and only post here was attacking in nature.

Yeah, but at least we're in agreement. Vodka and tonic, that's like you and me!

I am not a fan of the insertion of carriage returns either. I agree it makes the posts difficult to read. I would prefer standard formatting. Haven't really seen anyone else do this carriage return style on this forum in the year I have been participating.

Ben--very surprised to see you be hall monitor. You usually only weigh in on "the gulf is not the ocean" faux pas.

When I first saw the title of this post I assumed the subject matter was something pretty serious, like maybe elder abuse or crushing property tax bills for seniors. I never would have guessed the subject was speeding on the Legacy Trail.

The OP is likely unfamiliar with bike trails/mixed use trails. There will always be a speed differential among cyclists, and it isn't a safety issue. I note that virtually everyone using the Legacy Trail calls out "on your left" when passing, which is standard protocol for every bike trail in the country. Keep in mind that when you are "recreating" along you are traveling much faster than the walkers - that wasn't a concern to the OP.

The Legacy Trail was a big factor in our choosing this area and we use it regularly. It is easily the best and safest bike trail I have ever ridden. I don't know when you become a "senior," but I haven't been carded in 40+ years and I have zero problems with passing and being passed. Justice for seniors? Sounds a little overwrought.

All we're saying is we want fairness for everybody,
seniors or not.

It seems all trail rules are being adhered to except
the 15 mph speed limit.

Far more cyclists are breaking the 15 mph limit
than are pedestrians using motorized vehicles
(especially since new larger signage stops the
motorized users but not the speeders)

Let's have all rules adhered to rather than all but one...

Even if the 15 MPH speed limit was a realistic rule - I don't think any speed limit is necessary on a bike trail, because bikes just aren't that fast - there is no way to enforce it. Most bikes don't even have a speedometer. Something you might want to try when you are out riding is to periodically glance behind you, to see if anyone is approaching. Cyclists don't come out of nowhere and there are limited access points to the trail. You'll spot even the fastest cyclists long before they reach you.
