Hello!

Me and my fiance are thinking of putting Sarasota as one of the top regional campuses for FSU. I just wanted to know a little about the area and the better parts of town to live in.

Is Sarasota dog friendly? We have a 130 lb Great Pyrenees and a 60 lb mutt (he may have some pit in him) that need to make the move with us.

How are the rent prices? We are open to any type of living situation although a house would be preferred.

How are the schools in the area? I teach high school.

Thanks!

You will find an insanely difficult time renting with 190 pounds of dog. No apartment will take you, and nearly all of the homes wont, either. The few that will usually have quantity and weight limits on them. This doesnt mean it cant be done, your just going to have to search and compromise a great deal. Good luck with the move!

Thanks! Different towns react differently to different dogs. In Tallahassee, we had no problems finding housing for us and our dogs. If anyone has any suggestions of places that would allow us and our dogs in a decent neighborhood, let us know! They are both obedience trained and the larger one is a therapy dog for the hospital up here so meet-and-greets are fine for any landlord who questions them

I agree with Ben. Unfortunately, it's going to be pretty tough finding a place who will rent to you with such a large dog. You might want to call some of the larger rental companies in the area like Coldwell or Michael Saunders and see if they might have anything. Sounds kind of contradictory but Sarasota is actually a pretty dog friendly town. There are many restaurants that allow outdoor doggie dining and several dog beaches and parks for your pup. Good luck
